Why is professional writing important?

Blog – Looking through the syllabus, what do you anticipate gaining from this class?

Professional writing is important, whether you believe it or not. Why is professional writing so important, you ask? Being able to write professionally brings clarity to the workplace. When you are clear and concise, it leaves less confusion and work can get done efficiently and quickly. Although questions are a good thing, less questions are being asked, and you are able to move on quicker when the message is being written professionally. Having an understanding of correct grammar and lots of practice helps with this. Take the time to practice and study what it looks like to write professionally. This is something I am continuing to do always. There is always room for growth.

Being able to write professionally brings more respect. It is true that more of your co-workers, employees, boss, and clients will respect you more and understand you clearly as you write professionally. Your boss will trust you and give you more tasks when sending out emails to clients, writing creative content, and communicating in general. Your co-workers will trust you to help them when they may have questions and trust work alongside them. Your employees will notice the way you write and will see you as an example. Your client will trust you as you take care of their needs and the writing you create for them. They will all understand you more and give you the respect you deserve. Taking the time to write professionally and always improving will only make you better as not just a writer, but a communicator. Communicating is key in all of these scenarios. Without it, assignments go wrong, something is taken the wrong way, and you mess up the client’s needs.

When you write professionally, you achieve goals. Goals are apart of every aspect of work, if you do not have goals than you are not progressing know where. When you write professionally are concise, clear, and know what you are writing your goals will be achieved. You have to start a goal by writing it. From there, you continue to write on how to achieve that goal, you write how you are doing with that goal, and where you are going. Not only that, when you are writing for marketing and trying to reach a specific audience, you must know how to write using the correct grammar and tone for your audience.

I am looking forward to this class and anticipate to learn how to become a better writer in all aspects of communication. I intend to learn how to be creative, how to write to a specific audience, and how to communicate in a professional manner overall. At the end of the day, professional writing teaches you more than just grammar; it teaches you how to communicate with your co-workers, clients, their audiences, and so on.
