“When persons manifest the least kindness and love to me, O what pow’r it has over my mind… The nearer we get to our Heavenly Father, the more are we dispos’d to look with compassion on perishing souls – [we feel that we want] to take them upon our shoulders and cast their sins behind our back…if you would have God have mercy on you, have mercy on one another.” This quote was given by Joseph Smith, who was called to be a Prophet of God and helped bring back Jesus Christ’s full Gospel to the Earth today. If you have questions, please let me know in the comments, and I can explain further, but I would like to focus on how the quote above relates to news writing.
Writing news articles comes with great responsibility as you need to be accurate with the information being put out in the article, need good ethics, accuracy, quoting others, being clear and concise, and so on. Writing news relates to the quote because it put things into perspective that even when other people aren’t being kind, we can see them how God sees them. We are all children of God who loves us, and we love him. Our relationship with God can become stronger as we get to know him through prayer, scripture reading, His called Prophet and Apostles, and from each other. With that being said, it helps us see others in a way that is different. There is more compassion, forgiveness, and remembering they are human as us who make mistakes.
When writing news, we must be clear and concise. Well, how does that relate to this quote? Let me explain. When we bring ourselves nearer to our Heavenly Father, he brings things to light. He answers questions that man cannot. He shows us and guides us through this life with clarity and guidance. Although, because he has given us a gift to make choices, sometimes we mess up and will mess up, but through his son, Jesus Christ, who sacrificed his life for us. We can be forgiven. Therefore, as we do our best to follow His Gospel, clarity and guidance come with those questions in life. We must trust him. So why not include him in our writing? I want to challenge you to pray the next time you are writing your news article. Ask him to direct you to the right sources, and as you are writing to let the words flow. I know he will help you. Share with me your experiences when it comes to letting God guide you in your work. Leave a comment.
