Growing up in the 2000s means I experienced technology as it evolved in real time. I like to say that I actually grew up with technology. I remember when flip phones were normal, when iPods were the coolest thing you could own, and when social media was just beginning to take off. I didn’t grow up fully disconnected from technology, but I also didn’t have the same level of access that kids have today. Because of that, I feel like I got to grow alongside technology rather than being completely immersed in it from the beginning of my life as a child.
Social media, in particular, has had a huge impact on my life. I remember when platforms like Instagram and Snapchat first became popular and how different they were compared to what they are now. At first, social media felt simple and fun as a way to connect with friends and share moments. It was a time when you could scroll, and your feed would end. Over time, social media evolved into something much bigger. It became a place for personal branding, business marketing, networking, hearing news, following influencers, and using it to find things rather than searching on google. Watching that shift happen made me more aware of how powerful digital platforms really are. It is important to remember to do your own research, as you never know what is fake. Use your own personal judgement.
Technology has shaped not only how I communicate, but also how I learn, work, and plan my future career. As someone interested in marketing, I’ve seen firsthand how quickly trends change and how important it is to adapt to those changes. At the same time, growing up during this digital shift has taught me the importance of balance. I remember life before constant notifications, which makes me more mindful of unplugging when I need to and taking a break. Which is very important to your mental health. Overall, technology hasn’t just been something I use; it’s something I’ve grown with, learned from, and adapted to throughout my life.
